There are many brands of fans to choose from. I personally use and recommend the Panasonic brand for several reasons. The most popular reasons are ease and flexibility of installation, low noise levels, electrical efficiency of the motor and most of all the effectiveness of their ability to remove the stated or selected amount of air/moisture the fan is designed to remove.
The two most common Panasonic fans I install are on the next page. Both fans are functionally and performance wise the same. The only difference between them is one has the ability to add additional modules to enhance the fans abilities based on your needs and desires. These modules can be added now or down the road. Both options are available with or without a light.
Next we are going to look at the type of venting options for your new exhaust fan. There are two options for venting. Flexible venting which is the quickest, easiest, cheapest and the most common that contractors will install. Or rigid hard pipe venting. At Ductwork Pro either option you choose will be insulated and installed properly and professionally.
Let’s start with flexible venting. Flex venting when installed properly can perform very close to rigid hard pipe venting. The main problem with flexible venting is most contractors either do not know how to install flex venting properly or do not care and just want to finish up your project and move on to the next. In some cases flex venting is the only solution and when installed properly is the correct choice. When venting an exhaust fan with hard pipe we can maintain the fans rated CFM discharge air flow rate thus the fans effectiveness and ability to remove moisture properly from the space. Shorter, hard pipe and properly insulated venting is the best way to vent your exhaust fan. Now, as I stated earlier, in same cases we cannot install hard pipe due to install limitations based on the conditions of the install and venting locations. But, if possible, it is always recommended that you vent a fan in hard pipe venting over flex venting. That being said hard piping does cost a little more and does required additional labor but it is what is considered a properly vented exhaust fan. On average to vent your fan in hard pipe instead of just flex venting it will add $100 to $200 to your project.
*Please note if the fan comes out the lower level wall that is too close, typically with in 1-9” of the ground, we may have to install a snow riser hood instead of one of the caps mentioned above. These snow risers only come in a silver/galvionized finish and will be an extra $125.
